Melania Trump hit back at a former friend and White House aide again on Wednesday – accusing her of “wickedly editing” a surreptitious recording to make it look like she didn’t care about Christmas.
In a report posted on TwitterTrump said, “During my time as First Lady of our country, Stephanie Wolkoff secretly recorded many of our conversations.”
“Wolkoff then viciously edited and published our conversation to make it seem like Christmas isn’t important to me.”
Trump said Wolkoff “deleted” part of their summer 2018 conversation in which “I expressed the hope of reuniting divided families on the southern border,” adding that it “exposed his malicious intent.”
Trump – whose statement was first obtained by Breitbart News on Tuesday – also said she was speaking out because she wanted to “personally set the record straight because the mainstream media has not context for these misleading exchanges”.
“Christmas is an important time for me, my family, and the American people, and my devotion to the holiday is personal and deeply serious,” she said.
The controversy stems from a recording Wolkoff gave to CNN as part of his appearance on the ‘Anderson Cooper 360’ show in October 2020 to promote his memoir, ‘Melania and Me: The Rise and Fall of My Friendship with the First-Lady”.
The recording captured Trump saying, “I put — I work like a donkey — my ass to Christmas stuff who, you know, who gives a fuck about Christmas stuff and decorating? But I have to, don’t I?
Fox News exclusively reported last week that Trump would be selling limited-edition Christmas ornaments and related non-fungible tokens, with a portion of the proceeds going to fund scholarships for foster children.
In a series of tweets, Wolkoff called Trump’s statement “wicked fiction” and accused her of “capitalizing on my name to take advantage of the American people!”
“She has nothing better to do than attack my integrity and lie again to sell ornaments”, wolkoff wrote.
“SHAME ON YOU @MELANIATRUMP. PS I’m not lying!!!”
