George Pickens, the junior wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers, recorded a one-handed crazy catch that matches Odell Beckham Jr’s catch in 2014.
On September 22, 2022, the Pittsburgh Steelers discovered why they needed to throw football to rookie receiver George Pickens more often.
In the first two weeks of the 2022 season, the Steelers’ offense didn’t generate much yardage or points, for that matter. They had only two touchdown passes in two weeks, and they barely tried to throw the ball deep into the field.
During the Steelers’ Week 3 game against the Cleveland Browns, quarterback Mitchell Trubesky aimed the Pickens down the right sideline. Then Pickens leaned back, reached for him with one hand, and actually taped the reception. It was an eerily similar catch to receiving Odell Beckham Jr. with one hand against the Dallas Cowboys in 2014.
Steelers: George Pickens one-handed madness in the third week
What’s really amazing is that Pickens had Martin Emerson Jr all over the place, and he still managed to break away from the goal.
This was a huge play for the Steelers. This allowed the team to tie things 7-7 after running angrily into the end zone for a five-yard touchdown.
Pickens was selected in the second round of this year’s NFL Draft after playing on the Georgia Bulldogs football program. In his three years with Georgia, Pickens picked up 90 passes for 1,347 yards and 14 touchdowns.
The novice showed the team that if they aimed at him in the middle of the field, he would hunt. After this reception, there is no reason why Trubisky should not be targeted with insult.
